Tayla Coetzee Studio

Tayla Coetzee is a South African artist based in London, whose work features vibrant, expressive oil paintings. Born and raised in Cape Town, Tayla spent much of her childhood in her grandmother’s garden—sipping cold, colourful Bashew’s drinks, playing hide-and-seek, and observing how her grandmother paid unwavering attention to the flowers and birds that made her garden their home. Tayla often paints flowers in pots to pay tribute to the many pots that adorned her grandmother's garden, each year painted a different colour.

Later, Tayla spent many years between Cape Town and the Overstrand, where the abundance of flowers and fynbos offered year-round inspiration. These early landscapes formed the foundation of her artistic vision; layered textures and botanical motifs often appear in her work as tributes to the places that shaped her. Drawing from memory, place, and emotion, Tayla’s style reflects her deep connection to nature and her ongoing exploration of colour as a language of joy and remembrance.
