Ivan Smith

Born in Cape Town in 1966, Ivan began his career in fashion and textile design, studying Art and Design at Pretoria University of Technology. He worked as a knitwear designer in Johannesburg and later as a designer and merchandiser in Cape Town, eventually running his own design studio.

In 2020, after nearly 30 years in fashion, he transitioned to full-time digital art. Self-taught, Ivan creates highly detailed, high-resolution portraits on iPad Pro, blending pop art aesthetics with influences from textile design.

His work is now regularly featured in galleries across Cape Town.
