About the founder & owner of Jasper & Jute, Katy.

I'm Katy, the founder of Jasper & Jute, a brand that provides a platform for the creative minds in the art in-dustry. I've always had a passion for art, branding, and communications strategy, and I am thrilled to be able to combine these interests in my business. I have a vision of creating a community of art and artists, a space where people can find inspiration and execute their art concepts without feeling overwhelmed or overcome with options.

Growing up, I knew that I wanted to do something creative and entrepreneurial. I was head of marketing for a group of international fashion brands for seven years before I decided to take the leap and start Jasper & Jute; seeking a fresh challenge and new avenue.

I’ve always had a heart for beautiful things and spaces. I seemed to have found my calling in a hobby that eventually turned into a successful business. I believe that what we go through and learn ultimately helps us connect our passion and purpose. I jumped from a secure, happy, growing career (in the middle of a pandemic) into something that just sat well with my soul — making the leap a lot less scary. And this is Jasper & Jute. I have never looked back.

My morning routine starts with checking my emails and a cup of coffee in bed. Espresso’s only! Then, gym and a visit to my studio before coming home to work. I live between my store and home and couldn’t appreciate that more as a business owner. What drives me is my passion for creating something big, beautiful, and brave. I am a creative and a perfectionist, and I bring these qualities to my work every day.

On the weekends, I enjoy being a homebody and spending time nesting or cooking with my cats Jasper and Luna. Jasper was actually named after my brand! I also really enjoy going out with friends for beautiful, long lunches with lots of wine.

When asked what love I’d give to a younger me, I’d tell her to stop overthinking; if it won’t matter in two years, it shouldn’t matter now. Don’t compare yourself to others or apologise for victories or growth. When respect is no longer being served, get up from the table.

For aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners, I would advise you to trust your gut and what you are capable of, to place your faith in yourself above your fear, and to never give up. There is no “off” time when you own a business. Owning a business is a continuous journey of growth, and you have to be comfortable with temporary failure and disappointment in order to reach those goals. And the biggest one, by far, is not giving in to the ever-evasive imposter syndrome.

In terms of company values, attention to detail, quality, impeccable work-ethic, passion for what you do, and perseverance are what I hold close. Building the brand has had its challenges, such as copy-cat brands, but I have learned to rise above it and keep innovating. Expanding into more of Europe and the UK has also been a trying but such a rewarding life and business experience.

I'm so excited for what's to come this year, including a rebrand, new ways to make online art shopping easier, artist showcases and exhibitions under the Jasper & Jute name, and further expansion into Europe and the UK. I can't wait to see where this colourful, creative journey takes me and all involved with Jasper & Jute.
